Seed Safe/Low Salt In-Furrow Starter Fertilizers
6-24-6-.25(Zn) Green
Liqui-Grow 6-24-6-.25(Zn) Green is a clear, green liquid starter designed for in-furrow application. Approximately 50% of the phosphate is in the orthophosphate form which supplies immediately available phosphorus. The other 50% is in the polyphosphate form and rapidly breaks down to become plant available. The source of potassium is potassium hydroxide which provides a low salt K source. All of the nitrogen is in ammonium form.
- Average yields were higher than the leading competitor.*
- Seed Safe due to low salt index.
- Corrosion-free for longer storage and equipment life.
- Contains adequate planting nutrients for optimal starter response in a high-yield corn plant production system.
- Stable for winter storage.
* Farm scale plot comparing Twin State 6-24-6-0.25(Zn) (50/50) was compared to same rate application of competitor’s 6-24-6+ Zinc EDTA (80/20 starter). Contrary to the common theory that seed safe starter needs to be 80/20 for maximum yield response, the Twin State (50/50) product achieved higher yields by 1.85 bu per acre. Poly-phosphate is broken down fairly rapidly in the soil after application and therefore, available to the young corn seedling, without delay or reduction in yield.
- Specific Gravity: 1.318
- Density: 11.25 pounds/gal (177.78 gals/ton)
- Fertilizer Salt Index: 11.5
- pH: 6.8-7.0
- Color: Clear Green
- 3–5 gallons per acre.
- Do not place sulfur as 12-0-0-26(S) in contact with seed.
- If zinc is desired in-furrow, use chelated form following labeled rates.
9-18-9 Green Pop-Up Starter Fertilizer
This clear, green liquid starter is designed for in-furrow application. Its source of potassium is potassium hydroxide, which provides a low salt index. Approximately 50% of the phosphate is in the ORTHOPHOSPHATE form and 50% in the POLYPHOSPHATE form. University research has shown that once soil temperatures reach 50 degrees F, polyphosphate can breakdown into ortho in as little as 48 hours.
- Seed Safe due to low salt index.
- Corrosion-free for longer storage and equipment life.
- The liquid form provides ease of application.
- More economical than other pop-up starters on the market.
- Specific Gravity: 1.338
- Density: 11.15 pounds/gal (179.37 gals/ton)
- Salt-out temp: 12° F
- Fertilizer Salt Index: 16.7
- pH: 7.0
- Color: Clear Green
- 3–5 gallons per acre.
- Do not place sulfur as 12-0-0-26(S) in contact with seed.
- If zinc is desired in-furrow, use chelated form following labeled rates.
8-19-3 Green Pop-up Starter Fertilizer
This clear, green liquid starter is designed for in-furrow application. Its source of potassium is potassium hydroxide, which provides a low salt index. Approximately 50% of the phosphate is in the orthophosphate form which supplies immediately available phosphorus. The other 50% is in the polyphosphate form and rapidly breaks down to become plant available. This balance meets the plant’s immediate need and allows for extended availability as POLY breaks down over 48-96 hours.
- Seed Safe due to low salt index.
- Corrosion-free for longer storage and equipment life.
- The liquid form provides ease of application.
- More economical than other pop-up starters on the market.
- Specific Gravity: 1.285
- Density: 10.72 pounds/gal (186.56 gals/ton)
- Salt-out temp: 12° F
- Fertilizer Salt Index: 15.4
- pH: 7.0
- Color: Clear Green
- 3–5 gallons per acre.
- Do not place sulfur as 12-0-0-26(S) in contact with seed.
- If zinc is desired in-furrow, use chelated form following labeled rates.
Why Use Low Salt Fertilizers?
The short answer is that you want to use low salt fertilizers (aka pop-up starters or seed safe) when the starter is going to be placed directly on or in close proximity to the seed.
